Entry: Dreamland 6.18.2004

I'm bored, so I'm writing in here again.  I just finished reading Dreamland by Sarah Dessen.  I love her books.  She's amazingly talented, but she's only written six books so far.  I've read all of them except for her newest one, The Truth About Forever.  But, anyways, I want everyone to go read at least one of her books.  They're great.

"Dreamland" is about Caitlin O'Koren, who is sixteen years old.  Her sister, Cass, who was gonna go to Yale, ran away with her older boyfriend.  That and many other factors lead to her feeling depressed and withdrawn.  One day, Caitlin meets a slightly older and mysterious man, Rogerson Biscoe.  She is so happy when she's with him.  He makes her forget about all of her troubles and worries - at least for a while.  Rogerson is a perfectionist and he can't stand for anything to be out of place or people to be late or anything like that.  When Caitlin makes the cheerleading squad, and starts giving all of her free time to them instead of Rogerson, he starts lashing out at her.  It becomes a physically and emotionally abusive relationship.  She even tries drugs.

This book is really realistic, and you won't be able to put it down once you start reading it.  It's so sad, but it has little speckles of humor throughout it to ease the tone.
